Position Overview

The Stakeholder Engagement Officer supports the company’s commitment to transparency, responsible mining, and community partnership through effective communication and stakeholder engagement. The role ensures alignment of external communications with the company’s sustainability objectives, managing the flow of information across digital platforms, media, and key stakeholder networks.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Communications and Branding

  • Develop and implement communication and branding plans to promote the company’s sustainability and operational milestones.
  • Manage content and updates for HMDC’s official Facebook page, website, and intranet, ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent messaging.
  • Produce and edit press releases, IEC materials, and media kits in coordination with the Sustainability and Operations teams.
  • Maintain corporate identity standards and ensure consistent brand presentation across all communication materials and activities.
  • Support preparation of corporate presentations, talking points, and public statements for leadership and official events.

Stakeholder and Media Relations

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with government agencies, local leaders, and other stakeholders, ensuring open communication and trust.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement activities in coordination with relevant departments.
  • Monitor public sentiment and media coverage related to HMDC operations and industry issues; provide analysis and recommended communication responses.
  • Maintain updated stakeholder mapping and engagement records for reference in communication and CSR planning.

Crisis Communication and Issues Management

  • Develop, update, and operationalize the Crisis Communication Protocol, ensuring readiness for timely and coordinated response during critical events.
  • Support the Crisis Management Team in preparing holding statements, advisories, and talking points during incidents affecting reputation or operations.
  • Contribute to proactive issues tracking and risk communication, ensuring early identification and mitigation of potential reputational risks.

Human Rights and Responsible Business Conduct

  • Assist in the implementation and documentation of the company’s Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) process and related stakeholder consultations.
  • Ensure human rights considerations are integrated into communication and engagement strategies, particularly in vulnerable or indigenous communities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Development Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience in corporate communications, stakeholder relations, or sustainability communications (preferably in mining or industrial sectors).
  • Excellent writing, content management, and media coordination skills.
  • Experience managing social media, website CMS, and intranet platforms.
  • Strong understanding of crisis communication principles, stakeholder engagement, and human rights frameworks.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and capable of handling sensitive information and fast-paced communication demands.
